About John Wardwell: Dr. Wardwell was a professor in the Departments of Sociology and Community and Rural Sociology from 1973 to 1998. During that time he conducted research and taught courses in demography and population studies for both graduate and undergraduate students. He also conducted important research on the dynamics of rural/urban migration. This scholarship is provided by his colleagues, friends, and students in honor of his life's work.

Award: Cash award of at least $1000

Purpose: To recognize undergraduate students with preference given to students with and interest in demography. Preference will be given to students majoring in sociology or minoring in Community and Rural Sociology.

Eligibility: Undergraduates with a minimum 3.0 GPA, strong leadership activities and an interest in demography.

Application: Submission of a completed application and a current Degree Audit Report or WSU transcript.

Criteria:Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership roles, and a demonstrated interest in demography or population studies.

Selection Procedures: The Awards Committee will review all applications and select the winning applicant.

Award Announcement: 

The winner will be notified by the Department Chair and a notice of recognition will be posted in the Department's display window outside the Department Office in Wilson-Short Hall. The award winner will be recognized at the Department's annual Spring banquet.
