Memorial Scholarship

 

Award: Cash award of at least $500.

Purpose: To support a graduate or undergraduate student who expresses genuine desire to help others and who is committed to a career in sociology or social work.

Eligibility: Undergraduate or graduate students majoring in sociology and an expressed interest in a future career in sociology or social work.

Application: Submission of completed application form and a current Degree Audit Report (undergraduates) or WSU transcript.

Criteria: Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance, a commitment to a career and volunteer activities in the area of sociology or social work, and most importantly a sincere desire to love and care for people.

Selection Procedures: The Awards Committee will review all applications and select the winning applicant in consultation with Mr. John Dolan who established the award in honor of his deceased wife and daughter.

Award Announcement: The winner of this scholarship will be notified by the Department Chair. A plaque that hangs in the Sociology Office will be inscribed with the winner's name(s). A notice of recognition will be posted in the Department's display window outside the Department Office in Wilson-Short Hall. Award winner(s) will be recognized at the Department's annual Spring banquet.
