Sociology is the study of social structure and social interaction. From this common starting point, sociology examines a wide range of social phenomena and institutions. The faculty and students at Washington State University examine a number of specific issues and are active in a number of different specialty areas. At the same time, this department is committed to maintaining an intellectual and social community. To that end, we foster a continuing dialogue across specialty areas and specific research topics. The six groupings on this page provide an opportunity for faculty and students to study, learn and debate social structure and social interaction.
