The discourse surrounding the destructive nature of rap and reggae music has persisted throughout the media and academic literature. I have used content analysis of song lyrics, ethnographic research and interviews with students to explore the production and consumption of music. Currently, my research interests focus on the conduits and barriers to successful re-entry after incarceration.
