Social Demography

Social Demography emphasizes the scientific study of population from a sociological perspective. Demography is multidisciplinary and concerned with virtually everything that influences or can be influenced by population size, distribution, processes, structure, or characteristics. The field of demography is large, crosses many disciplines, and touches on almost every aspect of human existence.

Research by faculty and graduate students at Washington State University addresses a variety of topics through the utilization of a demographic prospective. The focus of current research includes the transition to marriage, race/ethnicity, education, labor and wage stratification, community, globalization, and the environment. Excellence in graduate-level training is achieved through course instruction as well as student-faculty collaboration on ongoing research projects.
