General Option
The general option requires a total of 36 hours in political science, at least 15 of which must be earned at WSU.

- Seminar required for those graduating with honors or distinction
Among the 27 additional hours, students must have at least 3 hours in each of these areas:
- 3 hours from American politics:
Pol S 206, 300, 301, 305, 317, 324, 330, 375, 402, 404 [M], 417, 420, 434, 446 [M], 450 [M], 455, 456 - 3 hours from comparative and international politics:
Pol S 314, 380, 405 [M], 412, 413, 418, 424 [M], 425, 426, 427, 429, 435, 436, 460, 472 [M], 474, 476 [M] - 3 hours from public policy and public administration:
Pol S 301, 316, 340, 416, 422, 430, 432 [M], 443, 445, 446 [M], 447 [M], 448
18 more hours in political science electives
12 hours of upper-division social science, humanities, or business electives beyond GERs
3 hours from English 201, 301, 402, or approved course

- Statistics and computer science
- Seminar in political science for students with 3.0 GPA or better
University Writing Requirements
- Two (2) Writing in the Major [M] courses (6 hours) from Pol S 404, 405, 424, 432, 438, 442, 446, 447, 450, 472, 476
- Junior Writing Portfolio/Qualifying Exam (Portfolio and proficiency exam required no later than first semester after earning 60 credits.)
Foreign Language Requirement
2 years high school or 1 year college (in same language)
