Scholarships & Financial Aid
Scholarships memorializing Frank Potter, the first teacher of philosophy at Washington State University, are available to help junior and senior philosophy students defray the cost of tuition. The department also offers a series of Young Philosopher Scholarships available to freshmen and sophomores.
Applications accepted during spring semester are normally for scholarships to be awarded for the following year. However, students entering WSU may apply for scholarships when applying to Washington State University.
Additional scholarships are available through the College of Liberal Arts. For information on other scholarships, as well as grants, loans, and work-study opportunities, contact:

The department also holds a university-wide annual philosophical essay competition, open to all undergraduates, which awards a first prize of $500.
Philosophy majors tend to do very well in competing for other scholarships and awards. For example, in a recent 2-year period, 8 of the 12 Phi Beta Kappa Scholarships (full tuition for one year) awarded at WSU were won by philosophy majors.
