Graduate Theory, History and Piano Diagnostic Examinations
( 3 TESTS )
The written portions of the Graduate Theory and History Diagnostic Exams should be taken at the student's convenience Monday or Tuesday (Aug. 15 - 16) in the Kemble Stout Listening Library in Kimbrough Hall during posted hours. New students should plan on 2-3 hours for completion of each test. Tests and blue books will be available with a tape. The keyboard and oral portions of the theory exam will be with Dr. Hare (Kimbrough 341) and the piano proficiency exam will be administered by Dr. Jeffrey Savage (Kimbrough 470). Individual exam times will be posted on both office doors for sign-up by August 15, 2011.
To prepare for the music history portion of the Graduate Diagnostic Exam, students should review their undergraduate music history courses. Be prepared to discuss each historical period, including compositional trends, representative composers and works. There will also be a listening portion, requiring identification.
