Tim Robblee serves as Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. His responsibilities include conducting the Wind Symphony, and teaching in the instrumental music education and conducting curricula. Prior to his current appointment, he held a similar position at Willamette University in Salem, OR.
Mr. Robblee is a candidate for the Ph.D. in music education and wind band conducting at the University of Minnesota, where he studied under Craig Kirchhoff. He received the MM in conducting from Northwestern University under the teaching of Mallory Thompson. He received the BA in music education and clarinet performance from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA and spent a year at the Munich Hochschule für Musik pursuing graduate clarinet studies. Prior to graduate study, he taught for eight years as an instrumental music educator in the Palo Alto, California public schools. During his tenure in Palo Alto, his students and ensembles were recognized for excellence on a state and national level, including recognition from the 1997 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards as the Outstanding High School Jazz Combo.
Mr. Robblee maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician. As an advocate of music in the public schools, he has adjudicated at numerous music festivals and presented at music education conferences. His primary research interests revolve around the development and identification of core repertoire for wind bands of all levels, including school-aged ensembles. In addition to conducting, Mr. Robblee has also performed recently as a reciter/vocalist in performances of William Walton's Façade and the songs of Kurt Weill.
Mr. Robblee is a member of College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensemble, International Association of Jazz Educators, and Washington Music Educators Association.
