A native of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Julie Anne Wieck is an Assistant Professor of Music at Washington State University. She teaches studio voice, diction, opera workshop, and opera history. Before coming to WSU in the fall of 1996, she taught at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.

Ms. Wieck received her Bachelors in Music Education at University of South Dakota-Vermillion. After teaching public school for two years, she attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she received a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and has recently received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the same institution. She has studied voice with Sylvia Plyler at University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Donna Harler-Smith at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Sharon Papian at University of South Dakota-Vermillion.

An active recitalist, Ms. Wieck recently presented a WSU faculty recital, as well as performed in the University of Idaho and Washington State University's Russian Music Recitals, the New Music Recital, the Women's Music Recital, and the Washington State Music Teachers Association Recital sponsored by the Skagit Valley Chapter.

On the stage, Ms. Wieck has performed leading roles in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Verdi's Falstaff, Menotti's The Telephone and Amahl and the Night Visitors, Weill's Street Scene, Herbert's Naughty Marietta, Floyd's Susannah, and Strauss's Die Fledermaus. She has also appeared as a soloist with several orchestras, in Bach's B Minor Mass, Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream, Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Poulenc's Gloria, and various operatic arias. Most recently, she performed as the soprano soloist in Verdi's Requiem with the Washington Idaho Symphony Orchestra and Chorale.

Ms. Wieck is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and Music Educators National Conference.
