A Wisconsin native, Jennifer (Scovell) Parker is pleased to have joined the School of Music at Washington State University. She is the director of VoJazz, the university's award-winning vocal jazz ensemble, and Crimson Revue, a high-energy pop/show ensemble. Jennifer also performs with Jazz Northwest, the WSU faculty jazz ensemble, and teaches studio lessons and voice class.
Previously, Jennifer was a member of the voice faculty at the McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her background also includes teaching Jazz and Pop Voice Class and Class Piano as a Graduate teaching assistant at Western Michigan University. During her time at WMU, she also acted as assistant director and performed with the internationally recognized Vocal Jazz ensemble, Gold Company. As a member of Gold Company, Jennifer toured throughout the Eastern United States and Europe, performing in concert with such artists as Darmon Meader and New York Voices. After leaving WMU she relocated in Milwaukee, WI, where she taught privately and in the public school systems. During that time Jennifer performed actively with the Scovell/Sponcia Jazz trio, Bay City Swing, Ziji and the Frank Sinatra Tribute Band which has opened for such performers as Bob Newhart.
Jennifer earned a Master of Music degree from Western Michigan University in Jazz performance and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in Jazz Studies. She has studied with, Linda Parins, Christine Salerno and Sunny Wilkinson.
Jennifer is active as a vocal jazz educator, arranger, clinician and adjudicator. She is featured on a number of recordings for Hal Leonard Music Publishing and most recently recorded for Dr, Stephen Zegree's book and CD, The Complete Guide to Teaching Vocal Jazz, published by Heritage Music Press.
Jennifer is a member of I.A.J.E. and M.E.N.C.
