Dr. David Turnbull is an Associate Professor of Music in the School of Music at Washington State University. He is the Principal Trumpet of the Washington Idaho Symphony and plays trumpet with the WSU Faculty Brass Quintet, Cameradschaft, En Chamade and Jazz Northwest. He is currently writing an interdisciplinary textbook and an integrated method book for studio trumpet. He has composed and arranged dozens of works for trumpet ensemble and is active as an adjudicator and clinician.

Dr. Turnbull acts as the music coordinator for Washington State University's Foundation Recognition Dinners, the WSU Showcase, WSU Performing Arts Galas and WSU Commencement Exercises. He also serves as the coordinator of the School's Brass and Percussion Area and the International Trumpet Guild's Northwest Chapter.

At WSU, Turnbull teaches studio trumpet at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He conducts the Symphonic Band and the WSU Trumpet Ensemble, and he also teaches music education instrumental methods and seminar in major performance literature.

Turnbull's trumpet students are competing in and winning local, national and international competitions. In 1997, Tom Barber won the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Improvisation Competition in Göteborg, Sweden. In 2001, Gwen Tarr placed third (as a freshman) at the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Artist Brass Competition in Washington D.C. Matt Reid placed second in the 2002 International Trumpet Guild Jazz Improvisation Competition in Manchester, England and won an International Student Music Award from Downbeat Magazine in 2006.
