Assistant Athletic Band Director
Chris Wurst is Assistant Athletic Band Director and instructor for the School of Music at Washington State University. His duties include helping to direct the Cougar Marching Band, the Cougar Volleyball Pep Band, and the Cougar Basketball Pep Bands through drill design, musical rehearsals, and on field instruction. Apart from his duties with the athletic bands, performs with WSU Faculty Brass Quintet and teaches music literature courses.
As a performer, Chris plays principal trumpet for the Washington Idaho Symphony and frequently performs with various groups throughout the Moscow-Pullman area, as well as around the country. He performed with the critically acclaimed Fountain City Brass Band from Kansas City, Missouri on their 2011 European Tour and the Spokane British Brass Band, along with several other groups.
Chris is originally from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, earning a Masters of Arts in Music from Washington State University, and two Bachelor of Music degrees in trumpet performance and music education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. In his free time, Chris enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Leah, and their dog Albi, and is a huge fan of baseball.
