- WSU Symphonic Band
WSU Wind Ensemble is our premiere auditioned concert band. This ensemble meets twice each week (M-W from 3:10-5:00 pm) and performs approximately 2-3 times each semester.
WSU Symphonic Band is a non-auditioned ensemble, although many instrumentalists choose to complete the instrumental auditions. This band meets 3 times each week (MWF at 2:10-3:00 pm) and performs approximately 2-3 times each semester. David Turnbull, conductor.
Choral Ensembles:
WSU Concert Choir our premiere auditioned choral ensemble. This is a mixed choir of about 40-48 singers who meet 4 times each week (M-T-W-Th at 2:10-3:00 pm) and perform approximately 3-5 times each semester. Lori Wiest, conductor.
University Singers a non-auditioned ensemble, although many singers choose to complete the choral auditions. This is a mixed choir of about 60+ singers who meet 3 times each week (MWF at 1:10-2:00 pm) and perform approximately 3 times each semester. Dean Luethi, conductor.
Madrigal Chamber Singers a select ensemble of 20 singers who perform in Renaissance costume and, traditionally perform music of the Renaissance and also other chamber music through musical history. The Madrigal Chamber Singers perform on campus approximately 5 times each semester, and tour through the state of Washington as well as other opportunities including performances in Italy, Russia, Arizona, and California. They produce the Annual Madrigal Dinner, where the singers sing, act, and dance in Elizabethan character, here on campus in December to sold out audiences. Lori Wiest, conductor.
VoJazz a select ensemble of 8-16 singers and a rhythm section who perform jazz and meets twice a week (T, Th 3:10-5pm). The members of this ensemble learn about live sound production, solo singing, theory and improvisation. The group participates regularly in jazz festivals and maintains an active performance schedule both on and off campus. Dean Luethi, director.
Opera Workshop an auditioned organization. Fall semesters have typically been opera or musical theatre scenes in a workshop manner, allowing students varied performance opportunities and classroom knowledge regarding staging, makeup, costumes, set design, etc. Spring semesters alternate between musical theatre and opera productions. Recent productions include the opera Marriage of Figaro of Mozart and Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. Julie Wieck, director.

The members of the Cougar Marching Band (CMB) seek to maintain the musical traditions and integrity of Washington State University through a vibrant group of musicians dedicated to music and fun. The band members also strive to master a variety of innovative marching drills and music to entertain their many audiences. At WSU, pride in performance, a commitment to excellence, and dedication to teamwork combine to truly make the Cougar Marching Band the "Best in the West!"

Jazz Ensembles:
WSU Jazz Ensembles have received significant recognition including Student Music Awards from Down Beat magazine and top awards at major festivals. Groups perform with guest artists, record and tour including regular invitations to perform at prestigious events including important conferences.

The WSU Symphony Orchestra studies, rehearses, performs and reviews original works and transcriptions for symphony orchestra. In addition to performing as a full orchestra, the orchestra divides at times to perform opera, theatre and chamber orchestral works. Each year a student concerto competition is held and the orchestra often performs with high profile guest performers and composers. The WSU Symphony Orchestra provides rehearsal and performance experiences that will assist students in their preparation for careers as performers, teachers, engineers, technicians, managers, composers and lifelong practitioners of music.

Percussion Ensemble:

This group tests your skills on all the percussion instruments (mallets, drums, timpani, accessories, ethnic instruments). Programs include works such as traditional literature (Varese, Cage, Harrison, Chavez, Cowell), world percussion (African, Asian, Brazilian), orchestral transcriptions, jazz and pop music.
