Ruth Boden: Off the Cuff CD coverRuth Boden: Off the Cuff features cellist Ruth Boden, an active, avid performer of contemporary music and pioneer in innovative performance. The concept for this album was inspired by the music of Zoltán Kodály, whose cello sonata features not only demanding technical passages, but also the challenge to allow the music to be free in a nature consistent with the folk music that Kodály so loved. The title Off the Cuff denotes Boden’s aspirations to bring freshness and freedom to the music, performances which go beyond notes and instead represent expressive, personal responses to the compositions. Boden is a member of the music faculty at Washington State University

9:00 am features jazz interpretations of classic standards including "It Could Happen to You," "Theme for Maxine," "The Night Has Thousand Eyes," "Beatrice" and more by the duo Brian Ward, piano, and Dave Hagelganz, saxophone, both faculty members in the School of Music. The album, recorded in the WSU Recording Studio, David Bjur, engineer, is named 9:00 am because that is the time when the duo regularly rehearsed. The album is available online via a number of online services including iTunes, Rhapsody, Pandora, Spotify, Amazon mp3 and Amazon on Demand.
