Concert Choir

The WSU CONCERT CHOIR, conducted by Dr. Lori Wiest, consists of 45 singers, from freshmen to graduate students in various degree studies from across the campus, such as music, engineering, communications, and cell biology. Members of this select ensemble are chosen for their vocal talent as well as their commitment, aural skills, and sight-reading abilities. They perform music of all periods, often performing music by contemporary composers. As part of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts received by Dr. Wiest, Concert Choir toured the state of Washington promoting music by American composers. In February of 2008, Concert Choir performed works by Eric Whitacre conducted by the composer in a series of concerts for the American Choral Music Festival sponsored by the same grant. http://libarts.wsu.edu/artmusic/schedule/acmf.html

The WSU Concert Choir has performed works with local and regional orchestras including an exciting performance of Carmina Burana with the Spokane Symphony in 2007. While their tour mission is to travel throughout Washington State to bring music from WSU into Washington's schools and communities, Concert Choir has also performed at Lincoln Center in New York City with the American Symphony Orchestra and on international tours to Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Russia.
WSU Concert Choir rehearses Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons at 2:10-3:00 pm. Auditions for Concert Choir occur the week before classes begin in the fall semester (Thursday, Friday, and Sunday). Auditions include singing a short song that you have prepared (accompanist is provided), vocal exercises, pitch memory, and sightreading. Students involved in Concert Choir enjoy performing on stage or surrounding the audience, have solo and smaller ensemble opportunities, and develop close friendships within the ensemble, while also taking advantage of the educational, cultural, and musical opportunities that exist.
