Master Class Audition — Lowell Liebermann

January 14, 2012

As part of WSU’s Festival of Contemporary Art Music (FOCAM), Lowell Liebermann will present a masterclass on his piano works! One of America’s most frequently performed living composers, Liebermann has had his works recorded numerous times. Many of his works have appeared on concert and competition programs around the world. His works have been performed by ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic and the Beaux Arts Trio, and by soloists such as Garrick Ohlsson, Joshua Bell, and James Galway (to name just a few). A pianist, Liebermann has written extensively for the instrument, both as a solo instrument and as soloist with orchestra. WSU is honored to have Lowell Liebermann as the guest composer for FOCAM 2012, and the keyboard area is excited to welcome him in a masterclass and to premiere his new Sonata for Two Pianos, Op. 117, at the evening’s concert.

In conjunction with WSMTA District VII, the keyboard area at WSU welcomes all interested participants to audition for the masterclass with Lowell Liebermann. The repertoire is limited to solo piano works by Liebermann (including, but not limited to his Nocturnes, Sonatas, and Gargoyles). A complete works list can be found at http://www.lowellliebermann.com. The day’s events will also include an exploration of other keyboard area offerings at WSU, including an organ class and a jazz piano class.

To audition for the masterclass with Lowell Liebermann, please send a CD/DVD/MP3 of your performance of the Liebermann work by January 10 to:
