The 2013 WSU Jazz Festival is scheduled for
Wednesday, November 6th, in the Kimbrough Music Building and Bryan Hall Theatre on the WSU Campus.
Our guest artist will be Patrick Sheng.
Patrick is the Director of Jazz Studies and Assistant Professor of Saxophone at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. As an educator, he has taught jazz/saxophone courses at Clark College, Washington State University, and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Patrick received his Bachelors and Masters of Music from Washington State University, under the direction of saxophone greats Greg Yasinitsky, Horace Alexander Young, and David Hagelganz.
As a performer, Patrick has performed all over the world as a professional musician, and has played along jazz greats such as Arturo Sandoval, Wayne Wallace, Fareed Haque, Kevin Mahogany, Matt Finders, Mel Brown, Charlie Argersinger, Greg Yasinitsky, and many others. He has also performed with the Spokane Symphony Pops, Washington-Idaho Symphony, Portland's The Elite Band, Funk Dis, and has been featured on recordings and articles in Jazziz Magazine.
Our adjudicators will select the best band of the morning and the best band of the afternoon!!
The festival will also feature the WSU faculty ensemble Jazz Northwest with Greg Yasinitsky and Dave Hagelganz (saxophones), David Turnbull (trumpet), David Jarvis (drums), Frederick "Dave" Snider (bass) and the newest WSU jazz faculty member, Brian Ward (keyboards).
Throughout the day, visiting school big bands will present performances for top adjudicators and each group will receive an individual clinic.
The fee will be $175 for each participating group. The festival will be limited to 18 groups.
Additional clinics will be presented throughout the day by WSU faculty members.
A highlight of the festival will be a mid-day "Gala Concert" featuring WSU Jazz Studies faculty members and the award-winning WSU Jazz Big Band.
To reserve a spot for your group, please contact Dave Hagelganz at dhagelganz@wsu.edu. For the last few years, unfortunately, we have had to turn away some groups because we simply didn't have room for all of the requests, so RESERVE YOUR SPOT SOON!
