Brass & Percussion

Reach New Heights

The brass/percussion area at WSU offers a wide range of classes and degrees, a faculty experienced in teaching and performing, and top-quality facilities. Recently, the Trumpet Ensemble toured Italy, and the Percussion Ensemble performed at regional MENC conferences and percussion festivals. Student soloists on trumpet and percussion have won top awards in MTNA, ITG, and various jazz competitions in the last five years. WSU annually hosts Honor Band, Percussion Festival, and Jazz Festival for select high school students from around the region.

Performance opportunities abound at WSU, including participation in ensembles such as Symphonic Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combos, Trumpet Ensemble, Trombone Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. Students also are involved in student chapters of MENC, MTNA, Mu Phi Epsilon, Jazz Society, and ITG. Brass/Percussion graduates are in demand as both teachers and performers throughout the United States, and are currently employed in orchestras, ensembles, and reggae bands, and as music educators in public school programs around the country.

The brass/percussion faculty are in demand as performers, clinicians, and adjudicators around the country, and have appeared on many recordings. Faculty compositions and arrangements are published and widely performed.
