Kathleen has been singing and playing music most of her life. Her unwavering musical dedication has brought her to study at the School for Music Vocations with Phil Mattson where she was a member of his group, VoicesIowa. After graduating from his challenging program, she finished her Bachelor’s in Choral Music Education/Piano at Northern Arizona University with Dr. Edith Copley. In Flagstaff, she found a latent passion and skill for songwriting and playing in bands. She began a performing career and maintained a heavy touring schedule while teaching at the local arts high school. A desire for graduate work brought her to San Francisco where she finished her MM in Choral Conducting at SFSU with Dr. Joshua Haberman. She continued to direct the vocal jazz ensemble at SFSU after she graduated and maintained a position at SF School of the Arts as an artist-in-residence. She has performed with many vocal groups including SF Choral Artists, Clockwork, the Glide Ensemble and won first place at the SF Harmony Sweepstakes with her a cappella group, Where’s Gesualdo. She has worked with many great musicians, including Phil Mattson, Richie Cole, Fareed Haque, Michael Franti, Bono, Stanley Jordan, Medeski, Martin and Wood, Michele Weir, The Motet, The Jacob Fred Jazz Odessey, Rhiannon, and most recently, Jazz Northwest. She is currently directing VoJazz at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, where she continues to write, arrange and live to serve the music.
