Terrorism, Public Opinion, and Political Choice: Britain Since 9/11

Harold Clarke and Marianne Stewart
Professors, School of Social Sciences
University of Texas at Dallas

Tuesday, October 10, 2006
2:50 to 4:00 p.m.
Wilson Hall 13

Events associated with the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001, have changed the world of politics in the United States, and together with the bus and train attacks in London on July 7, 2005, in the United Kingdom as well. These events mean that old and new issue agendas now coexist and that the new agenda of crime, immigration, and terrorism is an ongoing feature of British political life. Many Britons see these issues as intertwined and are prepared to do what is necessary to defeat terrorism.

Harold D. Clarke is Ashbel Smith Professor, School of Social Sciences, at the University of Texas at Dallas. His research and teaching interests focus on the Political Economy of Public Support for Democratic Political Systems, Time Series Analysis, and Survey Research Methods. Professor Clarke is the author of more than 15 books and numerous scholarly journal articles.

Marianne C. Stewart is Professor of Government, Politics and Political Science and Executive Vice-Dean of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Stewart’s research and teaching interests are in Comparative Government and Politics, Voting Behavior, and Social Science Research Methodology. Professor Stewart currently serves as Editor-Select of the American Journal of Political Science.
