George Kennedy
Professor and Chair

Biography
Kennedy has his Ph.D. from New York University in English and American Literature. He has taught at Washington State University since 1979 in technical and professional communication, composition/rhetoric, and general literature and composition for the Honors College. In recent years, he has taught for the University's Distance Degree Programs and has served as the English Department's Vice Chair and Scheduler.
Publications
Kennedy's research in technical and professional communication led to the publication of Solving Problems Through Technical and Professional Writing with Tracy T. Montgomery (McGraw Hill, 1993), which he has revised in a new edition, Technical and Professional Writing: Solving Problems at Work (Prentice Hall, 2002). His work in composition/rhetoric led in part to the publication of Correcting Common Errors in Writing, Third Edition, with Nancy P. McKee (Kendall/Hunt, 2002).
Research Iinterests
Kennedy continues research in the areas of composition/rhetoric, technical and professional communication, and professional ethics. His particular interests recently lie in the effects of collaboration and the uses of technology in the college classroom and the professional workplace.
Graduate Teaching Interests
Kennedy regularly teaches English 534, a course in the theories and methods of teaching technical and professional communication, and serves on the MA Exam Committee in Composition and Rhetoric and on students' degree program committees in composition and rhetoric and literature.
