Endowments
The English Department currently has several fellowships and Scholarships such as the Eva Feryl Peterson Fellowship for Native American women from the Northwest Indian Nations and the Murray W. Bundy Scholarship given annually to outstanding, full-time, junior or senior English majors committed to a career in secondary teaching. The department also offers the Basil and Ella Alexander Jerard Scholarship for outstanding English majors and the Emmett and Mary Avery Writing Awards for outstanding seminar papers. However, Scholarships and grants are always needed for student development and living expenses both for graduate and undergraduate students. The department has identified the following areas of need.
- Dissertation Fellowships
- Summer Stipends for Graduate Students
- Grants for undergraduate and graduate conference participation
- Professional Development Workshops
- Support for Undergraduate, Graduate, and Faculty Journals and Publications
- Funds for Visiting Speakers and Scholars
Currently, the English Department has no fellowships to support graduate students who are writing dissertations. These funds would help students to pay for books, copying and other research costs.
