About CSEJ

  What We Do

CSEJ leads WSU in addressing social and environmental justice issues.

Within WSU, CSEJ works with faculty, departments, student organizations, student service organizations, and other groups who have an interest in fulfilling the CSEJ mission statement. CSEJ crosses college, department, and campus boundaries to more effectively promote social and environmental justice action.

Beyond WSU, CSEJ works with community, tribal, grassroots, and non-profit organizations in Washington state, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond to address social and environmental justice issues.

CSEJ’s work includes:

  •  Connecting university resources and experts to community groups and each other
  •  Providing grant-writing and development support to CSEJ project teams and community groups
  •  Developing and conducting social and environmental justice projects and programs

Organization and Structure

CSEJ is in the process of determining its organization and structure. We strive to develop a structure providing for responsiveness to community needs, facilitation of cross-college and cross-campus efforts, and flexibility to meet changing institutional and community situations.

CSEJ will have a Co-Director on each WSU campus. Co-Directors have been identified for the Pullman and Vancouver campuses.

The present leadership body of CSEJ is a faculty working group. This group will be formalized in coming months. Additionally, CSEJ will form an Advisory Council made up of non-WSU people.

Project Teams will lead CSEJ’s on the ground efforts. Teams for existing projects will be formalized in coming months, as will the process for developing Project Teams.
