Ellen Arnold

As Assistant to the Dean, Ellen provides operational coordination, administrative support, and project management to the dean, often on complex and confidential issues, and performs and/or oversees a variety of administrative, fiscal, staff support, and planning activities that often have college or university impact. These responsibilities include:

  1. Serve as primary point of direct administrative contact and liaison with other offices, individuals, external institutions, and agencies on a wide range of issues.
  2. Provide assistance and support with problem solving, planning, and management of special events and other projects; developing and executing stated goals; staffing of staff searches; assist with development of long and short term plans.
  3. Coordinate and complete schedules and materials for faculty review, tenure and/or promotion, annual reviews, professional leaves, internships, contracts, and other activities.
  4. Obtain and provide specific information, research various issues, recommend solutions, coordinate and assist with policy matters; prepare and write materials and correspondence that are highly sensitive, confidential, and complex in nature.
  5. Coordinate dean’s office calendars, schedule dean’s appointments, and ensure appropriate follow-up; prepare documents for meetings, produce minutes as needed, keep accurate records and files, coordinate specified administrative activities and reporting across multiple organizational units.
  6. Hire, train, and supervise the office assistant(s). Provide and direct support activities such as phone calls, mail, resolving problems and inquiries, receiving visitors, reviewing routine correspondence, maintaining deadlines, and follow-up on operational commitments.
  7. Implement and interpret guidelines, procedures, policies, and practices. Coordinate the preparation, update, and distribution of college policy manuals.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
