Spring 2008

  • Dr. Kimberly Christen recently completed an interview with the BBC on her research, specifically the Mukurtu archive, that will be featured on its program, "Digital Planet."  It will be broadcast Tuesday, January 29, 2008.   • As of February, our new Academic Coordinator is Jean Wiegand, She also shares Academic Coordinator duties with the Program in American Studies.
  • CES is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. C. Richard King to the permanent CES Chair position for a four-year term beginning fall of 2008. Dr. King completed an interim two-year position this spring.
  • Dr. Jose Alamillo has accepted a position as Coordinator of the new Chicana/o Studies program at California State University-Channel Islands and will depart WSU in July.
  • Dr. Yolanda Flores-Niemann has accepted a position as Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Utah State University and will depart WSU at the end of June.
  • Dr. David Leonard and Dr. John Streamas have both been awarded sabbatical leaves for the academic year 2008-2009. Dr. Leonard's sabbatical will take place during the fall semester while Dr. Streamas' sabbatical will take place during the spring semester.
  • Dr. David Leonard and Dr. John Streamas both successfully achieved tenure and promotion to Associate Professor beginning Fall 2008.

Spring 2007

  • The Department welcomed three new staff members to the main office in the fall. Debbie Brudie moved from Psychology to CES as Finance/Budget Manager in August. Joy Strunk started in November as Academic Coordinator. Rose Smetana started in December as our Office Assistant III.

Fall 2006

  • The Department would like to welcome Josue Estrada, Martin Boston, David Warner, all of whom will join the Department of Comparative Ethnic Studies in the fall.
  • Associate professor C. Richard King will begin a two-year appointment as interim chair for the department of Comparative Ethnic Studies

Fall 2005

  • The Department would like to welcome Dr. Kim Christen, Sky Wilson, Michelle Jack and Heidi Harting-Rex, all of whom will join the Department of Comparative Ethnic Studies in the fall.

Fall 2003

  • The Department would like to announce its name change from the Department of Comparative American Cultures to Department of Comparative Ethnic Studies. See here for more information about name change

  • We would liked to announce and welcome Dr. Yolanda Flores Neimann as the new chair of the Department of Comparative Ethnic Studies

  • The Department is please to announce the publication of C. Richard King's Native Americans in Sports, 2 volumes. Armonk, NY: M.E. Sharpe. 2004
