Brief Biography
My research areas include: Chicana/o-Latina/o Studies; Comparative Ethnic Studies, U.S. Labor and Immigration Studies, Race and Masculinity. My research focuses on race, gender, labor, leisure, and sport among 20th Century Mexican Americans in the United States. My publications include: Making Lemonade out of Lemons: Mexican Labor and Leisure in a California Town, 1900-1960 (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 2006), "More than a Fiesta: Ethnic Identity, Cultural Politics and Cinco de Mayo Festivals in Corona, California, 1930-1950," Aztlan: A Journal of Chicano Studies, Vol. 28, No. 2 (Fall 2003), "Peloteros in Paradise: Mexican American Baseball and Oppositional Politics in Southern California, 1930-1950," Western Historical Quarterly, Vol.34, No. 2 (Summer 2003). My second book will examine masculinity and the transnational history of sports clubs, athletic events, and athletes in both Mexico and the United States during the 20th Century.
