Xuan Nguyen

Ph.D., American Studies

Xuan is teaching two sections of CES 101 during this fall 2011emester.

Xuan (Sue Ann) Nguyen is a Ph. D. graduate from the Program in American Studies at Washington State University. Her dissertation presents a comprehensive study of Vietnamese American refugee and immigrant families concerning the interaction of race, gender, and class with linguistic, cultural, and technological challenges. She examines these complex relationships between Vietnamese American students, their parents, and teachers in public school in the greater Seattle area.

Her research/interest areas include digital diversity; cultural aspects of multimedia and web technologies; adaptations of women and low income minority communities to technology; Vietnamese-American immigrants.

Nguyen works with a community group seeking to provide Vietnamese parents with opportunities to access online bilingual Vietnamese-English information about their children's progress at school. Additionally, Nguyen has created interactive websites offering cultural and economic resources for Vietnamese refugee and immigrant youth, as well as for young Vietnamese Americans to remember their roots.
