Edward R. Murrow Addition

The Murrow Legacy Lives and Grows at Washington State

“World class” is taking shape in the form of the addition to the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication on the Washington State University Campus.

The $12.7 million dollar, 24,000+ square foot red brick and glass building will be completed in the spring of 2004 and will house research and teaching labs, a digital TV news studio, faculty offices and a 172-seat classroom auditorium.

New computer labs will allow faculty and students to conduct nationwide surveys, measure psycho-physiological responses to communication, and evaluate online research.

The construction site is on the former green zone parking lot just west of the existing Murrow complex and just north of Thompson Hall.

The Murrow School is the only comprehensive communication school in Washington, including programs in broadcasting, print journalism, advertising, public relations and communication studies. Communication has about 700 majors and 750 pre-majors, making it one of the most popular and fastestgrowing programs at WSU.

About the Edward R. Murrow Award

The Murrow Award recognizes a person or organization exemplifying the professional standards of Edward R. Murrow. Journalists today still observe, admire, and emulate his standards.

Murrow graduated from Washington State University in 1930. This annual award and the symposium celebrate his achievements and renew our pledge to use his example as the standard by which we teach the journalists and communication professionals of tomorrow.
