Dennis Alexander is one of North America's most prolific and popular composers of educational piano music for students of all ages. A native Kansan and University of Kansas graduate, he joined the faculty at the University of Montana in 1972, where he served as piano department chair and taught piano pedagogy for 24 years before retiring in 1996.

In 1987, Alexander made his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall with violinist Walter Olivares, and he continues to be active as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician, in addition to his work as a commissioned composer.

Former president of the Montana State Music Teachers Association, Alexander is a popular clinician at state music teacher conventions. He recently returned from a tour in Australia and has visited the Far East twice, performing recitals and conducting workshops in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Alexander's "Concertante in G Major" was commissioned by the Montana Music Teachers organization for their state convention, and his 2-piano work "Fanfare Toccata Rondo" was commissioned by Goshen College, Indiana. Many of his compositions are included on the required list for the National Federation of Music Study Club Festivals. His work is regularly performed by piano students throughout the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Asia, and Europe.

Alfred Publishing Company released Alexander's innovative piano method entitled Alfred's Premier Piano Course in 2005. His latest collection, Especially for Adults, was released in March 2007.
