Kinship and gender, international development, religion, South Asia
Linda Stone is a cultural anthropologist who earlier conducted extensive research in Nepal on traditional medicine and religion.
She also worked on a number of development projects in Nepal concerned with the introduction of modern medical options and their integration with local cultural understandings of health and illness. Other development projects on which she worked included natural resource conservation and environmental sustainability.
She has served as a consultant to the World Health Organization in the countries of Nepal, Thailand and Indonesia, and as a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Nepal. More recently her interests have focused on anthropological kinship, its intersection with gender, the evolution of human kinship systems, and the impact of genetic knowledge on kinship constructions.
