UNESCO Recognizes History Graduate's Work with World Heritage Designation »

Amitava Chowdhury, who earned his Ph.D. in history from WSU Vancouver in 2008, recently directed an archaeological project at Le Morne Brabant, a fugitive slave site on Mauritius, that contributed to its inscription by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a World Heritage site.

Blanca Blanco (B.S. '03, psychology) has a message, and she is determined to share it with the world: "Education is for everyone." That is why the 27-year-old social worker, actress, and movie producer came back to Pullman in fall 2008 to film Cruzando Barreras (Crossing Barriers) with Los Angeles director Albert Pedraza.

Distinguished alumnus Sherman Alexie (B.A. '94, American studies) has won a National Book Award for his autobiographical novel for young people, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.

Alum Named Chief Historian »

Robert K. Sutton (Ph.D. '84, history) has been named chief historian for the National Park Service. As chief historian, he provides guidance and direction to the national parks on interpreting the significance of America's historic places.

Music Alum Nominated for Grammy

Kenneth Boulton (B.M. '84) was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 in the Best Instrumental Soloist Performer (without Orchestra) category for his work on the 2-CD anthology Louisiana: A Pianist's Journey.
