Research
in Philosophy
Faculty members conduct research in their various specialties. Overviews
of research projects conducted by philosophy faculty can be found
on the faculty homepages, reachable from the Faculty
and Staff page. Additionally, the philosophy departments of
Washington State University and the University of Idaho hold a colloquium
series each year in which faculty members present current research.
Faculty
in the philosophy department work also with students to help them
develop their own work outside of classes and to submit their papers
to appropriate journals and conferences.
Philosophy
majors have done very well in conducting undergraduate research
in this department. Typically, several students each year present
papers at national and/or regional philosophy conferences. As another
example, a philosophy major was the first prize recipient in Washington
State University's campuswide undergraduate research competition
for spring semester 2002.
The
Inland Northwest Philosophy Conference also provides outstanding
opportunities for WSU students to present research and serves as
an educational resource, involving the students first-hand in an
intensive 3-day discussion of a philosophical symposium with internationally
known scholars.
